We are looking to set up a monthly plant swap meet through the summer. We will do one the first Saturday of EVERY month.
DATES - May 2nd; June 6th; July 4th; August 1st; September 5th; October 3rd.
Parking and swapping as many plants as you like. Do not expect many attendees initially but if the weather is fine it will make a nice day out for everyone.
10.00 AM Start.
Location - The Festival Fields. Maps on the main site plus co-ordinates. Any problems/ideas then drop me an Email.

Well, there will be coffee and burgers on-site! People are also welcome to bring their own. Volunteers welcome to help us pull this together. We have some old mugs we can use and as it grows we will see what people want from the Swap Meet / Barter Thing!

We will start The Swap Meet in the big barn just in case the weather is a little wet! If people want they can bring a picnic as there are two sites to walk to about 800m from the barn with fire pits and wood supplies. Well it sounds like we better start spreading the word.

I just noticed i have a conflict on my calendar for May 2 and i can't get to the plant swap. I really want to support this, i think its a great community get together and i will be at the June one. I'd love to send some plants to make sure the tables are full, to keep people coming back. I could have them ready on the wednesday if someone could pick them up by the Friday morning.

Thanks for the support from the die hards at the first Plant Swap Meet Up.
Organiser Rachel said ‘it may take some time for people to make the most of the Swap Meet, and the roads do nothing to help, but as it costs nothing and you end up with something, then I am sure people will enjoy it. Also with the opportunity to picnic and walk around beautiful scenery it can make for an enjoyable break. With two people travelling up from Moncton and local support events like this can really draw people into a community.’
Items brought included:- wax coated cone firelighters; tent; organic free range eggs; many indoor and outdoor plants; golf trolley; jam preserves; fan; potatoe store; mirror; metal door frames; bark mulch; horse manure; off cut wood; apple tree logs; tons of books; hay nets; walking sticks; old clothes; toys; to mention a few of the items.
Looking forward to the next one on June 6th 2009 at 10am.

Sorry for the eighty's reference, but I can't wait for the SWAP! Just because I'm a curious kind of person, and because I really want other people to be there June 6th, I thought it might generate a bit of anticipation if we discreetly divulged some of the items we might be bringing...kind of I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours!
For instance, I have yet another 12' pot of standard Lilac whips, 6 pieces that might start someone a lovely hedge along their driveway...
And don't tell Monsanto, since it might violate some patent law, but I'm going to bring two 6" pots with a lovely dwarf reblooming bright buttercup yellow daylily, they are exquisite and prolific bloomers that flower in June and then again later in the summer. And being dwarf they only get 12 to 18" high, so they can go in a nice pot on your deck in the sun with some purple pansies in front or plant them in a sunny corner of the lawn that you can't get the mower in...
I have a few other things, but I'd like to hear from others...

Well, Eggcentric, You sure do describe that nicely, you must be a gardener at heart... I'm bring some willow up for Rachel this time, and perhaps some lambs ear. If I don't get busted cutting willow branches down at Jones Lake, I'll just get enough for everyone! I keep seeing them hanging over the trout pond.

Oh, I am sooo disappointed! I have been eyeing some lovely green branches near the ditch, wondering if I am smart enough to figure it out on my own...I wonder if there are any basket weavers that might give a class around here some time? Wouldn't Friday night heritage craft classes be a cool idea through the summer? Candlemaking, soapmaking, sewing, weaving, rug hooking,etc...there are only 8 weeks of summer, I'm sure there are enough generic crafters around that might be able to lead a one or two hour class. About the willow, hey are beautiful but be carefull where you plant them, their roots are invasive and can follow hidden water systems. You definitely do not want them close to plumbing, septic, or wells.

the idea of the willow is to plant in boggy patches of our fields to get rid of current mosquito havens (sorry mosquitos - but you've outstayed your welcome, and well and truly left itchy memories of you already!); and also to plant some around our pond to give the trout some welcome shade - nowhere near any plumping or anything else we have to worry about

How about some hollow log flower planters, herbs, maple, oak, white pine, spruce, birch or cherry trees, foxgloves and maybe more - depending on what I get time to get in pots?
